How to Search the Journal Electronic Database Online
Members of the American Art Therapy Association enjoy free access to the online database of journal articles. If you need help accessing the site, try these instructions:
- First, clear your browser of any temp files (they often interfere with access). Go to your Control Panel on your computer and click on Internet Options. In the middle of the page you should see "Temporary Internet Files." Click on "Delete Files" – this step only deletes temp files that are downloaded when you view the Internet. (If you use a Mac, simply click on "empty cache" in your Safari menu).
Then click ok to exit.
- Next, go to the AATA website at www.americanarttherapyassociation.org and click on the Members Only log in the middle of the home page. This will take you to a screen to input your email address and password. This will open the member page.
- On the member only page is a menu bar to the left. About halfway down is the link "Journal Archives." Click on the link. It will take you to a page where you can find "Click here" (in purple) to search the journal archives.
- You're in! Now notice that to the right is a pink box where it says Welcome! Skip the log in and the register links (that's for libraries) and look farther down where it should say "Recognized as" and your Member ID. This means that the system recognizes you as an AATA member and will automatically allow you to access the journal.
- Farther down on the same menu bar are Current Issue and Browse Journal. You can click on these or you can put in keywords in the box under the picture. Either way will pull up articles you are looking for.
- If you are a student, you have the added benefit of accessing the Journal through your university's library if they have a subscription. Go to your library's online catalog where they have their electronic journals. You should have free access to
Art Therapy and other scholarly journals in their collections of databases.
