Call for Reviewers
If you are an art therapist with specialized knowledge in areas of theory, research, and clinical practice, you may be interested in serving on the Editorial Review Board of Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association. To maintain the Journal at the highest quality of scholarship, we depend upon reviewers with a high level of expertise and the ability to be objective, balanced, and constructive in their evaluation of the work of others. We welcome potential reviewers who reflect the broad focus of the profession and its diverse constituencies. If selected, you would be asked to read and evaluate about 3-4 manuscript submissions per year, provide authors with evaluative feedback, and make recommendations to the Editor. Reviewers commit to a three year, renewable term on the Review Board.
Reviewer Qualifications:
- Credentialed professional art therapist or professional in a relevant field
- Expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methodology
- Specialized knowledge in area(s) of clinical practice, education, research, and/or topics of interest to the profession
- Knowledge of publication standards and professional writing
- Relevant experience applicable to objective evaluation and providing constructive feedback
- Ethical integrity and service to others
- Timeliness in the return of reviews
In addition to our regular Journal Review Board, art therapists or related professionals who would like to serve on an open "ad hoc" basis are also invited to apply. Ad hoc reviewers are selected to review for special issues of the Journal, or when a particular area of expertise is needed that is not already represented on the Review Board.
Attention new graduates: If you are a recent master’s degree graduate or doctoral student with an interest in publication, we invite you to serve as an intern on the Journal Review Board. The Journal intern program is designed to support research and improved scholarship in the field by providing new professionals with an opportunity to participate in the peer review process. Serving as a reviewer is an excellent way to learn directly about the challenges of publishing one’s original research and ideas.
To apply (in all categories): Please complete the on-line Reviewer Application and Information Form and send with your current curriculum vitae to atj@mtmary.edu. Upon receipt, we will review your credentials and let you know our decision as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you!
